This site is a tribute to Susan Arkell. Sue was a much loved wife, mother and grandmother and will always be remembered fondly by her family and friends. She was very proud of her daughters and grandchildren. Sue was a very caring lady and very much a people person. She valued her wide circle of friends and was always willing to listen to people’s issues and problems.
Sue was always an active person, enjoying her yoga, keep fit classes and country walks. She loved coastlines and was happiest near the sea. She was a keen reader and was particularly interested in history, and enjoyed completing crosswords in her daily newspaper. She was passionate about her garden, and highly knowledgeable about plants and flowers. She also loved spending time with the family, and always took a keen interest in the activities of her grandchildren.
Sue was unlucky to suffer three serious cases of cancer. In 1996 she underwent surgery for bowel cancer. Then in 2022 she had major surgery for skin cancer in her cheek and eyelid. She battled bravely through both of those in a manner that was truly inspirational. This was also the case for the third bout of an unidentified cancer, which sadly she did not survive.
True to her rural English roots to the end, she had an engaging personality and a wonderful sense of humour. A person of immense warmth and kindness, she will be greatly missed.
